Used by Google to filter the entries typed in a search bar, the Google Stop Words list allows the search engine to ignore 174 terms considered “unspecific” if entered in a search query. Questioning the power entitled to Google and the ways the search engine is curating our access to knowledge, this project uses the Stop Words list as framework and filter to Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 famous novel.

By deleting all the words Google wouldn’t consider in a web search query from the original text, a new content was revealed; endless lists of words newly connected by the absence of the 174 terms.
Right pages present Bradbury’s subtracted writing, shaped as poems, while left pages show a representation of every word deleted during the filtering, a dot standing for a deleted letter.
